So I've only played with stairs sightly, trying to make a second floor. I noticed that the stairs will kinda choose which direction they want to face on their own, after attempting q/e for rotating and messing with what blocks are around the stairs I still have trouble getting stairs to face the way I want them to.
Has anyone found a way to control this or is it just how it is for the time being?
Pretty sure it's just how it is for now. The best system I've got is ensuring there's precisely one block to the side I want their back against.
Pretty much, yes. From what I've seen, you need a block behind the stairs. So..
Forgive my rudimentary description of a side view. 0's are blanks, s's are stairs, b is a block
This will get the stairs going the correct ramp direction, however the first one you put down may look a little strange, especially if next to other non-stair blocks, but it will orient based on the next one.
I tried to do that on the side of my house. But the stairs kept aligning themselves to the side of the house and not the stairway. Even after I removed the neighboring house block and then replaced it.
Can you post a screenshot?
I think I actually was able to get it to work how I want it. I don't know what I was doing wrong before but now they are lining up how I want them. Thank you though!
I've found that the only way to be sure your stairs face the way you want them to is to have a wall on either side of them or have them 2 stairs wide with a wall on one side (minimum). Walls on both sides are the best bet though.
